I just wrapped up work on a PC/Tablet version of a fall prevention and exercise tracking app for seniors called Health in Motion. This is one of three projects that I worked on during my two years as a Gameplay Programmer at Blue Marble Game Co.; The other two games, Treasure of Bell Island and RESET, track cognitive performance over multiple gameplay sessions, which include interactive and themed versions of standardized pen-and-paper assessments. It’s been a great experience to work on games with such diverse requirements, hardware, and goals. As one of three programmers at Blue Marble Game Co. it was edifying to be able to contribute to all aspects of the games, but it also kept the scale of projects relatively small. Because I am eager to apply my experience to high scale software with a larger user base, I am currently pursuing Software Engineering positions that will further develop my skills as a Game Engine and Tools Programmer. I graduated from UC Santa Cruz in 2014 with a degree in Computer Game Design. My work there focused on Design, Prototyping, Project Planning, and Artificial Intelligence. Before I committed to Game Design, I was a Computer Science major. The Software Engineering skills I developed, such as implementing software design patterns using C++ and Java, translated easily into gameplay programming and scripting. Working my way through school allowed me to expand my professional experience alongside academic achievement. My professional experience nurtured skills in project management that prepared me for leadership roles in game design. I was promoted to management positions at two different companies, where I designed and implemented systems that increased productivity and efficiency.
